07/21/04 - For Immediate Release: The Tennis Industry Association has announced the categories for the first annual TIA EXPO Awards presented in January at the TIA EXPO during the Super Show in Orlando.
At the TIA EXPO, over 50 individuals, businesses or organizations will be honored who are setting the standards in retailing, merchandising, and growing the game. The 2004 categories are:

• Top 10 Pro Shops of the Year
• Top 10 Specialty Tennis Shops of the Year
• Top Sporting Goods Store or Chain of the Year
• Top 20 Tennis Welcome Centers of the Year
• Top Hard Goods Manufacturer / Supplier of the Year
• Top Soft Goods Manufacturer / Supplier of the Year

For the Top Pro and Specialty Shop categories, 40 shops will be nominated (20 pro shops and 20 specialty shops) in September of 2004 with the winners announced at the TIA EXPO in January. The winners will be the Top Manufacturers of both hard goods and soft goods while showing creative and progressive ways to grow their business.
The 20 Top Tennis Welcome Centers will be made up from one winner from each of the 17 USTA Sections and 3 “at large” winners. The winners will be facilities that had great results as a Tennis Welcome Center in growing the game while attracting and retaining new players to the game.
All these nominees and winners will be given a travel allowance to attend the TIA EXPO on January 17-19 and be honored at the TIA Forum on January 17. A group of representatives from various manufacturers and associations will pick the nominees and winners. The Top Hard Goods and Soft Goods Manufacturers will be selected through an on line survey to be held in October. If any retailer would like to be part of this survey, please email the TIA at awards@tennisindustry.org and give them your email address and account information.
More information and criteria for these awards can be found on the TIAEXPO.com website.
Finally, the TIA in conjunction with the Super Show will be honoring any representative, manager, manufacturer, professional, facility, etc. that has had 20 years of service in our industry. Anyone or any company is eligible to be included by emailing us at 20years@tennisindustry.org. with your name, date you started (1985 or earlier) in the tennis industry, where and what you are doing now.
The TIA EXPO2005 is the start of an annual trade event (not open to the general public) that combines seminars, forums, awards, a buying show, and fun …all in one. The TIA will also announce at the EXPO the results from the 2004 Tennis Participation Survey and plans for 2005. A minimum of 8 seminars will be held covering an array of topics focused on growing tennis participation, growing your retail business and more.
