02/01/05 - The past month has been a milestone for Donald Young. Young from the USA is not only the new Junior Champion of Australia, but also he holds three new records. At 15 years, six months and seven days old, Young became the youngest boy to win a Junior Grand Slam and the youngest boy to reach number one in the history of ITF junior rankings. Adding to these two accomplishments, Young is also the first African-American boy to be ranked No. 1 in the world in singles.
In the final at Melbourne, number two seeded Young defeated number one seed Sun-Yong Kim of Korea in two sets, 6-2 and 6-4. HEAD racquets were in the hands of all but one semifinalist. Besides Young, who plays with the Liquidmetal Radical MP, Sergei Bubka from the Ukraine and HEAD Team Elite member Robin Haase from the Netherlands were playing with HEAD.
Interesting Facts:
Donald is the first American to win the Australian Open boys' title and the first to be ranked number one in the world since Andy Roddick accomplished both feats in 2000.
Young and his partner, Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands, lost to Kim and Chu-Huam Ye of Chinese Taipei in the boys' doubles final yesterday, 6-3, 6-4.
In the girls’ tournament, the winner came from Russia: number one seeded member of the HEAD team Victoria Azarenka defeated Agnes Szavay from Hungary in two straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2. Singles was not the only title for Azarenka as she was also the champion of the girls’ doubles tournament with her partner Marina Erakovic from New Zealand.

HEAD congratulates Donald Young and Victoria Azarenka for their hard work in result of victory!
