06/21/05 - HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- Professional Tennis Registry and ROHO, Inc., will co-sponsor the ROHO/PTR $15,000 Wheelchair Tennis Championships at the Van der Meer Tennis Center on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Tournament play begins Wednesday, September 21 and continues through Sunday, September 25 with men’s, women’s, quad and junior divisions. Some of the top wheelchair players in the world will compete in this event which is part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and sanctioned by the USTA and the ITF.
A Welcome Reception and Opening Ceremony sponsored by Quickie, will be held Thursday, September 22, with an exhibition match to follow. Friday evening will feature an oceanfront Beach Cookout, and an Awards Banquet will be held Saturday evening at the Crowne Plaza Resort. Additional player amenities include a Wednesday night picnic, free lunches, a repair station and an on-site athletic trainer from Palmetto Therapy Services.
An Instructing Wheelchair Tennis Workshop with the added bonus Advanced Wheelchair Skills & Drills will be conducted from 9am-3pm on Sunday, September 25. This course is open to tennis teachers and coaches who want to learn to teach wheelchair tennis. Quickie will provide chairs for able bodied coaches to use during the course. The cost for the workshop is $50 and includes a wheelchair teaching supplement. PTR Wheelchair Certification testing will also be offered to current members.
Deadline for tournament entry is August 17th. USTA membership is required for entry. Spectators are invited free of charge.
