06/23/05 - New York– For the third consecutive year, TENNIS Magazine and British Airways, the official airline of Wimbledon for North America, will offer Americans the opportunity to experience the heritage and excitement of the world’s most prestigious sporting event – The Championships at Wimbledon.

If you can't make it to Wimbledon, then "The TENNIS Magazine Wimbledon Experience presented by British Airways and sponsored by Rolex" is the next best thing. This exciting three-day extravaganza will transform New York City’s Vanderbilt Hall, within Grand Central Terminal, into the All England Lawn and Tennis Club, featuring royal guards, ivy walls and simulated grass playing surfaces. The event, free and open to the public, will be held June 28-30.

Commuters passing through Vanderbilt Hall can wait for their trains in style by watching matches from Wimbledon while sitting in courtside style seats. A giant monitor will televise ESPN’s and NBC’s coverage of Wimbledon free of charge.

British Airways also offers their expertise of authentic London by bringing a bit of Brit-speak from their current “Go with those who know” campaign featuring British words and their fun translations. Commuters will learn words like ACE, SMASHING and BRILL they can use to cheer on the players while watching the matches. Not only will commuters have a taste for a real London experience, but they can also play the British Airways Wimbledon instant win game where they have a chance to win daily prizes including tennis racquets, official Wimbledon gear as well as be entered in to win a deluxe holiday in London. (No purchase required.)

British Airways flight attendants will be on hand to offer commuters the opportunity to experience their even more comfortable business class flat bed, which uses the latest cushioning technology to create softer beds that provide travelers with an infinitely deeper, more restful sleep.

Rolex (the official timekeeper of Wimbledon) will sponsor a fast serve competition and offer the public an opportunity to serve like Andy Roddick and win great prizes such as hats and t-shirts.

“TENNIS Magazine is once again excited to bring Wimbledon back to the United States,” said Jeff Williams, Group Publisher, TENNIS Magazine. “For the tennis fan that cannot attend the Championships, this interactive platform gives them a first hand experience of the aura and prestige that is Wimbledon and it gives our clients an opportunity to interact with the consumer.”

“British Airways is proud to partner with TENNIS Magazine once again to bring New Yorkers a bit of Britain by sponsoring an interactive event that shares a similar prestige and heritage just like the Wimbledon Championships,” said Elizabeth Weisser, Vice-President of Marketing, British Airways North America. “We’re chuffed to be the official airline of Wimbledon for the fifth year in a row.”

British Airways, Britain’s flagship carrier and one of the world’s largest international passenger airlines, is renowned as an industry leader with a strong reputation for superior service, comfort and innovation. British Airways has invested more than a billion dollars in new products including their Club World business cabin, which offers the truly flat bed in business class across the North Atlantic. Further information on flight schedules and fares to Britain and other worldwide destinations from 22 cities in North America is available at www.britishairways.com.

Internationally recognized as the premier luxury timepiece, Rolex has been leading the watch industry since the early 1900s. Conceived as a more practical alternative to the pocketwatch, the Rolex timepiece was the first wristwatch to receive official chronometer certification asserting exceptional accuracy in 1910. This distinguished timepiece is treasured by individuals in all lifestyles. Sports enthusiasts value its ruggedness, explorers depend on its reliability, many are drawn to its sophisticated movements, and some simply value its elegance. Rolex has become the symbol of life’s crowning achievements.
