11/03/05 - Chicago--Wilson Racquet Sports and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced today that Wilson, the No. 1 brand in tennis, will become the Official Stringer at the US Open beginning in 2006. Wilson will be the on-site stringer for all competitors, which equates to approximately 3,000 rackets strung during the three weeks of the event.

The multi-year US Open deal represents a new strategic direction for Wilson to increase its presence worldwide at professional and amateur tennis tournaments. As one of the world’s premier sporting events, the US Open is the ideal venue for Wilson to launch their new strategy. Wilson has some other events on their radar, which will be announced at a later date.

“We identified key tournaments around the world to develop a mutual partnership to help grow our stringing business and add value to their event, and the US Open is an ideal fit for Wilson,” Brian Dillman, Vice President of Wilson Racquet Sports, said.

“Wilson is a valued partner of the US Open and has provided the Official Ball for more than two decades,” Jim Curley, USTA Managing Director of Tournament Operations and US Open Tournament Director, said. “We expect Wilson to elevate the quality of service provided to the more than 800 athletes who compete in all aspects of the US Open.”

Wilson is the premier brand in tennis, with top Wilson touring professionals playing Wilson rackets and string, including No. 1 ranked and 2005 US Open Men's Singles Champion Roger Federer, No. 1 ranked Lindsay Davenport, Venus and Serena Williams and many others.
