09/14/05 - The 2005 US Open marked several landmark achievements for Wilson Racquet Sports. Their annual private party became the hottest ticket in New York, they experienced a very successful launch of their new W line of performance rackets, their re-designed US Open retail store achieved strong sales growth, and let’s not forget about Roger Federer and the Bryan Brothers who all captured their grand slam titles this year playing with Wilson’s nCode technology.
As many of the top tennis stars descended early upon New York City, they took an evening off on Aug. 27 to join Wilson for one of the hottest parties prior to the US Open. A packed house of guests took center stage to a surprise show in which Wilson debuted the new W line of high performance tennis rackets for women. The launch was emceed by retired, top player Barbara Schett and included a fashion show and a special welcome to more than 40 of Wilson’s top ATP & WTA players who were present including Roger Federer, Venus and Serena Williams and Justine Henin-Hardenne.
The party buzz continued throughout the week when Wilson opened the doors to their US Open store, which was upgraded this year with flat screen televisions highlighting video of their players as well as a new high-end jumbo ball display to showcase one of the most recognized items at the US Open. Wilson retail sales were up 11% overall at this year’s US Open, which included a 20% rise to over 4,600 jumbo tennis balls sold, continuing its record as one of the top-selling items at the US Open.
The Winner’s Circle marked a career-high and emotional win for three of Wilson’s top players. Roger Federer’s victory over veteran Andre Agassi catapulted him to legendary status as one of the few to win Wimbledon and the US Open back-to-back in consecutive years. Mike & Bob Bryan’s dream of capturing a US Open doubles title together became a reality after beating the No. 1 seeded team Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi in an all Wilson men’s doubles final.
Defending champion Roger Federer is among one of the 60+ ATP and WTA Tour players using Wilson’s rackets with nCode technology. Federer switched to Wilson’s nSix-One Tour last year at Wimbledon and has been on a winning streak ever since. The Bryan Brothers play with the nPro Surge and Bjorkman and Mirnyi with the nSix-One 95.
