09/28/05 - Chicago--As the Tulane University men’s and women’s tennis teams attempt to return to normalcy following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the New Orleans Area, Tecnifibre has helped make the transition a little easier with a generous donation to both programs.

Tecnifibre has provided the Tulane teams with rackets, string, grips, bags and tennis balls. Both Green Wave teams are currently enrolled at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and thanks to the donation by Tecnifibre, they can now return to the court as well. “College tennis is important to us as a company and we felt it was necessary to show our commitment and support through the donation of equipment to Tulane University” said Michael Hailey, College Sales Manager for Tecnifibre.

“Tecnifibre has given us a chance to continue to grow our program, and more importantly, it has allowed our student-athletes a chance to get back on the court and get back into a usual routine,” Tulane head women’s coach David Schumacher said. “Our teams got out of New Orleans essentially with overnight bags and the clothes on their backs. Tecnifibre has generously offered what we need to get back in the game, and I can’t say enough about their generosity.”

Tulane men’s coach Robert Klein added, “We're really appreciative of the support and generosity Tecnifibre has shown. It’s really nice to know that companies like Tecnifibre are thinking of us during this situation, and willing to donate the equipment necessary for us to begin to practice again. Hopefully now we will be able to compete later in the semester. These are unprecedented times for the citizens of New Orleans and the students of Tulane. Tecnifibre has stepped up in a first class manner."

Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams are coming off Conference USA Championship seasons in 2005. For the women, the 2005 C-USA title was their third in a row and the team is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The men, meanwhile, won its third league title as well the program’s ninth consecutive trip to the NCAAs.
