08/06/06 - “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come!” The words with which the French philosopher Victor Hugo penned to describe social changes can also be applied today, only this time the revolution is found in the Tennis Industry:
Introducing the all new DNX 1 POWER ARM from VÖLKL Tennis!
VÖLKL Tennis is no stranger to pioneering revolutionary innovations that have fuelled tennis development over the years: The world’s first fiberglass racquet back in 1972 (Zebra) was made by VÖLKL Tennis in Germany and changed the way racquets have been made ever since. More than 30 years later, the revolutions keep coming: The new POWER ARM Technology!
The POWER ARM design constitutes a completely new type of racquet geometry. The POWER ARM sprouts from the handle and supports the string-bed. In contrast to conventional racquets, this racquet has a moving yoke-bridge. The POWER ARM extends out and is essentially the throat of the racquet, in line with the string bed. When a ball impacts the strings, the POWER ARM moves back, creating a pocket effect. This causes less impact on the arm and more contact time with the ball, resulting in additional control and feel. At the maximum deflection point, the POWER ARM resets to its original position and acts like a catapult that helps launch the ball forward with additional force.
This unique racquet design has been in the works for a number of years. However it never made it past the prototyping stage, as the POWER ARM did not prove strong enough. The performance of prototypes failed to meet the high requirements; the twisting and torqueing of this construction were the major concern. That problem was solved with the introduction of the new DNX material.
DNX proved to be the missing link. DNX is a new carbon material developed by the Fraunhofer TEG, a leading German Institute of Technology. The properties of DNX are in itself revolutionary, as it is 25 times stronger than other conventional carbon fibres. VÖLKL Tennis exclusively uses this high-tech material in its POWER ARM design to provide the highest possible stability, to lessen the twisting and warping of the construction when balls are hit off-center.
The revolutionary POWER ARM technology from VÖLKL Tennis is celebrating its premiere in the new DNX 1. The unique design makes this frame the ideal racquet for players looking for a light-weight racquet (only 9.2oz strung ) and an Oversize frame (115in2) for easier handling. All this combined with maximum power and the dynamic properties of the POWER ARM. The integrated BIG GROMMET technology support the forgiving nature of this racquets and increase the sweet spot even further.
Here are the specs:
Head-size: 115in2
Weight: 9.2oz strung
Length: 27.8in
Beam width: 27-29mm
String-pattern: 16x17
Technologies: POWER ARM, Sensor Handle System, Big Grommets
