08/17/06 - New York, N.Y.--To get New Yorkers into the swing of the 2006 US Open even before the first ball is served, Grand Central Terminal’s historic Vanderbilt Hall will be transformed into an all-day tennis festival as TENNIS Magazine’s Grand Slam in Grand Central returns on Friday, August 25, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Hosted by tennis legend and TENNIS Magazine Publisher Chris Evert and headlined by the biggest names on court today, the event will offer an entertaining and interactive experience for the 200,000+ commuters who pass through Grand Central Terminal daily. The free event features a custom-built tennis court, a rally wall, and a variety of fun for tennis fans and players of all ages. Fans will have the opportunity to meet tennis stars from today and yesterday, including Evert, Martina Navratilova, Robby Ginepri, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Ai Sugiyama and many others. Throughout the day fans can receive tips, hit with the pros and even play table tennis against top Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players. Many prizes will be awarded, including tickets to Arthur Ashe Kidsday, Babolat tennis racquets, VIP access to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player party and weekend getaways to Saddlebrook Resort.

• United States Tennis Association (USTA) – The USTA SMASH Zone will feature a rally-wall and serve-speed cage open to fans of all ages. In addition, the USTA will host various activities and contests to win 2006 US Open tickets.
• Sony Ericsson WTA Tour – Get close to the “Girls on Tour” by registering for a chance to take on a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour pro in a table-tennis tiebreak. Fans can also win VIP access to the “Glam Slam” player party at New York City’s hot spot, Crowbar.
• Saddlebrook Resort – The official resort of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour will be giving away weekend getaway packages that include private tennis lessons.
