02/02/06 - Bordentown, N.J. -- Top players on the professional men’s tennis tour will hit the courts at this year’s SAP Open, swinging at the new Prince Tour Ball, the official ball of the tournament which runs from Feb. 13 to 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Ca.

“Prince has always been a tennis company known for creating high-quality equipment,” said Doug Fonte, president of Prince Sports USA. “The SAP Open is a perfect partnership for Prince to showcase our premium Prince Tennis Ball that offers players high performance, consistency and durability.”

The USTA, ITF and ATP approved Prince Tour Ball is the company’s new tennis ball introduced in July 2005. Prince Sports will also serve as the official racquet, footwear and apparel sponsor for the SAP Open, creating a brand-exclusive partnership.

"Just as the SAP Open has a long and rich history among professional tennis tournaments - Prince has a rich history of being the innovative leader in delivering cutting edge tennis products and technology," SAP Open Tournament Director Bill Rapp said. "Since 1970, Prince has developed the tennis ball machine, the oversize racquet, the Longbody racquet and now - their award-winning 03 racquet technology. The SAP Open is proud to have such a dynamic & comprehensive partnership with the only American-owned tennis company.

“At the 2006 SAP Open, we will proudly play the Prince Premier Extra-Duty Tennis Ball for our world-class field, including Roddick, Hewitt, Agassi, Blake & McEnroe. We're excited to see Prince's newest innovation take flight in Silicon Valley."

About the Prince Tour Ball

The Prince Tour Ball became available in limited distribution in July 2005. The ball incorporates a durable hi-vis woven felt for optimal visibility and a longer-lasting, dynamic core for extended play. The balls are hand-covered for consistent quality and available in different felt types that are engineered for different play characteristics and court surfaces. The Tour Ball is offered in Extra Duty felt for hard court use, Regular Duty felt for soft court use, and High Altitude Extra Duty felt for areas above 3,500 feet.
