02/16/06 - Bordentown, NJ– Prince continued its momentum in the fourth quarter of 2005, moving from the 3rd largest brand in unit share to the 2nd largest and closing in on the #1 spot. The Specialty Store Retail Audit report for string and shoe sales from TIA/Sports Marketing Surveys indicated that Prince Brand tennis shoes had 19.9 percent of fourth quarter unit share.
Two Prince shoe models rank in the top 10 in year-to-date dollar share, including the T10, and the Scream Low. The T10 was the No. 3 shoe in year-to-date dollar share, while the Scream Low was No. 8. In 2006, Prince will build on this momentum when the new Scream 2 hits shelves in April.
“These reports confirm that we’re creating shoes and strings that revolutionize the sport and help propel us in the industry,” said Doug Fonte, president of Prince USA. “Our engineers and designers are constantly working to improve the game of tennis for players of all levels, bringing them quality products that elevate their game.”
Prince strings continued to outrank the competition gaining 28.4 percent of brand unit share in 2005 lead by Prince Syn Gut Duraflex, the No. 1 string in market share with 15.3 percent.
Unless otherwise noted, the sales figures presented herein reflect the results of the 4th quarter and year-to-date sell-through on tennis shoes and strings. The data is based on a retail audit of key pro/specialty and sporting goods stores conducted by Sports Marketing Surveys.
