02/20/06 - Chicago--Wilson Racquet Sports, the No. 1 brand in tennis, is launching Evolution footwear, the first line of tennis shoes designed to meet the specific needs of players as their game evolves. The line includes eight styles engineered to fit the body mechanics and court style of beginning, intermediate and advanced players and will be available beginning this month.
Wilson developed the Evolution line based on the specific body mechanics and needs of players based on their skill level taking into account six principles: cushioning, stability, breathability, lightweight, toe drag, and outsole radius.
“The Evolution footwear concept is unprecedented in tennis because it utilizes Wilson’s revolutionary shoe technology to offer incredible performance on the court in a system that complements your game and style of play,” Todd Fisher, Global Director of Footwear for Wilson Sporting Goods, said. “The Evolution line makes it easy for a consumer to find footwear that matches their specific needs to whatever level of tennis player they are.”
The Backdraw and Challenger, the entry-level shoes in the line designed for the recreational player, feature added cushioning and stability in the rear of the shoe since most beginners typically hit the ball standing upright, with most of their weight shifted to the back of their heels. The women’s Challenger includes interchangeable color inserts for added fashion flexibility.
The intermediate player requires more centralized cushioning, support and stability to compensate for improved footwork and development of an all-around game. The Wildcard and Qualifier, designed for club players, feature a centrally positioned ventilated stable wrap and extended toe drag for aggressive play. The Qualifier introduces Wilson’s DST 3x technology in the heel, a multi-layered cushioning system that creates greater surface friction for maximum shock absorption and energy recuperation, and a three-zone cushion core in the fore foot for enhanced flexibility.
Advanced players who have an explosive game that demand the most from their shoes will appreciate the Evolution models in this range. These type of players demand superior cushioning, stability, toe drag and breathability. The Tour, CF2 and Open are the most highly advanced, high performance shoes in the Evolution line, designed for serious players with features such as floating stable wrap systems, three layers of cushioning that work independent of each other, Duralast rubber outsoles and 180-degree toe drag protection.
The Open is the top-of-the-line Evolution shoe, the lightest in its class with a 360-degree ventilation system and blown cushion core outsole that expands upon impact to absorb shock and quicken reaction time.
For light workouts and warms ups, the Evolution line also includes the ETF (Eat the Fuzz) model, a shoe with an adjustable Velcro strap to easily slip on and off. All shoes in the collection are designed to be court ready, with no break in period.
The Evolution line features a variety of styles and colors for men, women and juniors that range from $30 to $130 that will be available at sporting goods and tennis specialty stores nationwide beginning this month.
