PTR Names 25th Master Professional

02/22/06 - Hilton Head Island, SC -- Last night at the annual awards banquet of Professional Tennis Registry, Todd Miller, of Buffalo, New York, was named a PTR Master Professional, joining an elite group of only 24 others who have earned the Master Professional designation in an international organization of more than 12,000 tennis teachers and coaches. The banquet, held at the Crowne Plaza on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, was part of the annual PTR International Tennis Symposium and $25,000 Championships.

Professional Tennis Registry established the Master Professional level of certification to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the game of tennis throughout their careers. Master Professional is an important distinction in which PTR members must demonstrate their broad involvement in tennis over many years. They have shown growth in their knowledge of the game, a strong involvement in introducing tennis to their community, expertise in teaching and coaching, and a commitment to developing professionally. PTR’s Master Professionals are a strong representative of the sport and display the highest standards in the tennis teaching profession.

Todd Miller, who has the been Executive Director & Head Professional at Amherst Hills Tennis Club since 1980, is also a USTA National Coach, a USA Tennis High Performance Coach, as well as a PTR Clinician and Tester. He is no stranger to awards. In 2004, Miller was named PTR Tester of the Year, PTR Member of the Year for New York and Eastern Coach of the Year. he has been inducted into four Halls of Fame, including the inaugural class of the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame and the University at Buffalo’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Miller wrote an article that was published in the award winning TennisPro magazine.

While at Amherst Hills Tennis Club, Miller has introduced the sport to thousands. At least 30 of his students have earned tennis college scholarships, and countless others have earned section and national rankings, two of whom were national champions. Under his tutelege, 10 of Miller’s assistants have gone on to become college head coaches & 10 became head pros themselves.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teachers and coaches with more than 12,000 members in 123 countries It has the greatest percentage of minority and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches worldwide in order to grow the game.
