07/03/06 - Hilton Head, S.C. -- Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and Special Olympics, Inc. collaborated on the new Special Olympics Tennis Coaching Guide. The 40 page spiral bound book, which includes a CD, is a step by step guide for beginner and volunteer Special Olympics coaches to grasp the basics of teaching tennis to the Special Olympics athlete.

The Special Olympics Tennis Coaching Guide is available free through PTR Headquarters. It can be ordered on line at www.ptrtennis.org or by calling 800-421-6289 or 843-785-7244.

“We hope this guide will encourage more PTR teaching professionals to become involved in Special Olympics tennis in their communities,” said Geoff Norton, PTR Director of Development, “and will serve as a great resource for those who already are.”

“Thanks to PTR, Special Olympics athletes and coaches now enjoy world class training and resources. PTR’s support of our athletes and the coaches who work with them, demonstrates a level of respect and athletic expectation that our athletes don’t frequently enjoy. The fact that PTR believes in the athletic potential of our athletes is proof that it is a dynamic, forward thinking organization poised for even more influence in the tennis world of tomorrow,” said Dave Lenox, Vice President Sports, Special Olympics, Inc.

PTR is the Official Tennis Training Partner for Special Olympics. Special Olympics is a year-round program of sports training and competition for more than 2.25 million individuals with intellectual disabilities in more than 150 countries and all 50 states in the USA.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 12,000 members in 123 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
