06/12/06 - Shanghai – Citigroup has extended its partnership with Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai, and will be the tournament’s exclusive international bank sponsor from 2006-2007. The agreement takes Citigroup’s partnership with the elite eight-man, eight-team circuit finale to three years after it became a Premier Sponsor for the first time in 2005.
“Citigroup is proud to be associated with The Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, a prestigious global sporting event that reflects the outstanding level of support for tennis in China,” said Mr. Stephen Thomas, Director of Corporate Affairs, Citigroup China. “It is pleasing to extend our commitment to this tournament for another two years, which we hope will contribute to the ongoing development of tennis here, while enhancing China’s growing reputation as a host of international sporting events.”
“We are very pleased to have Citigroup renew its partnership with the Tennis Masters Cup,” said Brad Drewett, Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai Tournament Director. “The Masters Cup is one of the largest annual sporting events in China and has developed an enormous public following there. Sponsors capitalize on this as well as the strong international broadcast coverage, which makes it an ideal event for global sponsors like Citigroup.”
Citigroup is one of 10 Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai Premier Sponsors, which include Lacoste, Indesit, Rado, China Mobile, Shui On Land, Haworth Furniture, China Pacific Insurance, China Union Pay and Shanghai Petro. Heineken is the event’s Founding Sponsor and Mercedes-Benz is Principal Sponsor.
The Tennis Masters Cup will remain in Shanghai until 2008 after the Chinese promoters extended the tournament’s stay in the country’s booming business capital beyond their original three-year agreement.
