06/16/06 - Hilton Head Island, SC -- Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) graciously accepted a new Quickie Match Point tennis wheelchair, a gift from by Sunrise Medical, the manufacturer of the chair. The wheelchair will be a tremendous asset to able-bodied PTR tennis teaching professionals to learn the nuances of the wheelchair game.

Kathryn McDougal, Quickie Ambassador Program Manager, was quick to respond to PTR’s need for a tennis specific wheelchair. The chair will be put to good use in PTR’s Instructing Wheelchair Tennis Courses that are conducted throughout the United States.

PTR Director of Development, Geoff Norton said, “It is imperative that able-bodied participants in our wheelchair instructing workshops experience the chair first hand for themselves. Understanding chair mobility, as well as stroke production from a wheelchair player’s perspective, is just not the same without familiarity with the equipment. When we conduct Instructing Wheelchair Tennis on Hilton Head Island, Quickie has always been responsive by loaning us chairs. With this generous donation, PTR can now assure that a sport chair will be available no matter where we conduct these clinics.”

The Quickie Match Point Tennis Wheelchair offers a unique front end caster design for unsurpassed stability. The new integral fifth wheel design, with quick release option, enhances maneuverability and stability.

Scott Crosswhite, Regional Sales Director for Quickie, helped organize the donation. Crosswhite and his Quickie team, supports the annual PTR/ROHO Wheelchair Tennis Championships by supplying a repair tent for the players’ athletic chairs.

“PTR is training tennis professionals around the country so they can provide opportunities for the wheelchair bound,” said Crosswhite. “Hopefully, this equipment will help make it easier for the pros to assimilate and be able to assist their players. We are pleased to work with PTR to improve the quality of life for our patients through tennis.”

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 12,000 members in 123 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
