05/08/06 - Chicago--Wilson Racquet Sports, the No. 1 brand in tennis, is expanding its exclusive W line of women’s high performance rackets with two new models that were created and inspired by Venus and Serena Williams. The new W3 Gypsy Rose and W5 Divine Iris will make their professional debut this year with both Venus and Serena switching to the new rackets at upcoming tour competitions. Venus debuted the W5 last week at the J & S Cup in Warsaw, Poland and Serena is expected to change over to her W3 racket at an upcoming tour competition, pending her return from injury. Both models will hit retailers in July 2006.
As fans of the award winning W line since it launched last year, the Williams sisters expressed strong interest in becoming part of W and began working directly with Wilson to develop and design individual rackets that would allow them to reflect their signature style and personalities. In addition to the dynamic new cosmetics, The W3 Gypsy Rose and W5 Divine Iris are an expansion of Wilson’s W line and feature Wilson’s exclusive nCode technology, ensuring optimum performance benefits for all levels of play.
“As the only company to have created a comprehensive line of rackets tailored specifically to women’s wants and needs, the response that we’ve received on our W line has been truly remarkable from both our professional tour athletes and recreational players alike,” said Brian Dillman, GM of Wilson Racquet Sports. “We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Venus and Serena in creating two more exceptional performance rackets that will really help round out our W line.”
The new W5 Divine Iris was created exclusively for Venus and features Wilson’s nCode frame technology for added stability, strength and power. The design of this racket, both classic and elegant, is white with colorful chocolate and golden colored swirls inspired from the work of her favorite painter, 19th century Austrian artist Gustav Klimt.
The new W3 Gypsy Rose was designed to reflect Serena’s free spirit and pop culture style. This racket features two of Wilson’s revolutionary technologies, nCode and Triad, for enhanced comfort and power. Based on Serena’s favorite colors, the racket features a dusty pink background with brown shaded accents that were influenced by her style icons Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton.
Both the W3 Gypsy Rose and W5 Divine Iris will hit retailers in July 2006 and will retail for $270. Wilson’s full line of W rackets is also available now at retailers in three headsizes and in a variety of nine additional vibrant cosmetics to match the level of performance and individual style of players.
