11/22/06 - Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) is the recipient of the 2006 Adaptive Tennis National Community Service Award. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) will present the honor at its annual Community Tennis Development Workshop banquet on February 10th in Atlanta, Georgia.

The prestigious award recognizes an organization or individual that has demonstrated continued excellence, dedication and service in tennis for special populations or persons with disabilities. It is the mission of the USTA and Adaptive Tennis to promote and develop the growth of tennis for those individuals with differing abilities as a result of physical, developmental, mental and environmental challenges.

PTR has been a long time and strong supporter of Adaptive Tennis through its hosting of the annual Special Olympics Tennis Championships, and through its charitable arm, PTR Foundation, which distributes a Coaches Guide for those wishing to teach tennis to Special Olympics athletes. PTR is the Official Training Partner for Special Olympics International Tennis.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 12,000 members in 123 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
