11/30/06 - Bordentown, NJ – Squash star Nicol David is celebrating her tenth title triumph with Prince’s revolutionary O3 Tour racquet after winning her second World Open title in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In what turned out to be the longest Women’s World Open final on record, David beat opponent Natalie Grinham of Australia, a three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, 1-9, 9-7, 3-9, 9-5, 9-2 at Ulster Hall. The victory extended her winning streak to 33 matches.
The Malaysian started her sensational title run less than two weeks after first adopting the O3 Tour, winning the prestigious British Open crown for the first time in October 2005. By the end of 2005, David had become World Open champion for the first time and No. 1 in the WISPA World Rankings.
After winning her fifth Asian Championship title in February, David began an incredible run on the WISPA World Tour, winning at the Qatar Airways Challenge, Malaysian Open, Penang Open, British Open and Hong Kong Open before marking her tenth O3 victory with the greatest prize of all – the World Open.
"Incredibly, Nicol is improving all the time – and has now firmly established herself at the top of the women's game as the player to beat," said Prince Sports International Player Promotions Manager Andy Bunting. "Her remarkable success in Belfast, in one of the most memorable finals ever seen, makes Nicol a true champion."
Prince’s new O3 breakthrough is the first significant development in squash racquet technology since the late 1980s when racquet frames changed from wood to graphite. Prince re-engineered traditional pin-sized string holes into giant O-Ports, providing total string freedom for a livelier response across the entire string bed. The O3 Engineered racquets provide a 54 percent larger sweet spot in a maneuverable and aerodynamic frame.
