09/15/06 - Just over thirty people attended the 3rd Annual Conference on Indoor Clay Courts held at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD on August 28th & 29th. The conference is sponsored by Lee Tennis as a way to share progress on its continuing efforts to improve the performance and the ease of maintenance of clay in an indoor environment.
The featured speaker was Mitch Crenshaw of Luck Stone Corporation, Lee Tennis’ parent company. He discussed how a year of research has revealed a much clearer picture of why indoor clay courts get so hard and compacted. Other speakers included Steve Pike, General Manager of the Tennis Club of Rochester, who reported success using aerification as part of a regular maintenance regimen, Peter Eason of the Chevy Chase Club, who shared strategies for managing water on indoor courts and Ed Montecalvo of Lee Tennis, who discussed how to analyze court conditions. Ben Rennolds of Tennis Courts Incorporated, Esther Woodlee of Mid-Atlantic Tennis Supplies and Carlos Vanegas of Congressional Country Club were on court presenters who discussed tools, equipment and maintenance strategies.
