04/17/07 - Valencia, Spain – Rising star and Dunlop player Nicolas Almagro of Spain won his second straight title at the Valencia Open on Sunday, beating Italy's Potito Starace, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Almagro jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set before dropping the set, 6-4. He won the final two sets easily to take the crown.
Almagro was playing in his first Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) title match since beating France’s Gilles Simon for his lone crown in last year's final. He has won 10 straight matches at this clay-court event.
The 21-year-old Almagro is ranked 32nd in the world. He has a 2-1 career advantage over Starace, who was playing in an ATP final for the first time.
“This has been an incredible week for me, winning the title for a second year in a row,” said Almagro, “and I couldn’t be happier about the way I was playing with my Dunlop Aerogel.”
“Nicolas’s win is a great way to begin the clay court season as a warm up to the upcoming French Open where we are an official supplier,” said Kai Nitsche, Dunlop’s General Manager of Racquet Sports. “We all congratulate him on this championship and wish him continued success. He is off to a terrific start this season, and the 5HUNDRED TOUR is a perfect fit for his game.”
About the Aerogel Racquets
Dunlop has changed the science of tennis with the introduction of the Dunlop Aerogel line. The lightest solid on earth, Aerogel has strength 4000 times its own weight. With these unique attributes, the Dunlop engineers have designed a frame that creates strength and stability while allowing perfect touch and feel for ideal control -- what many describe as the ultimate performance racquet.
“Dunlop has a reputation for producing some of the finest racquets played by professionals,” said Nitsche. “Aerogel further enhances our position as a leader in performance technology.”
Dunlop Aerogel 2HUNDRED. Perfect for high performance players with a long swing, the 2HUNDRED allows for extra power and spin in precision shotmaking.
Dunlop Aerogel 3HUNDRED. A control oriented racquet ideal for high performance players. With Aerogel, the 2007 3HUNDRED is slightly lighter than last year’s model.
Dunlop Aerogel 5HUNDRED. Perfect for serious players looking for extra power and playability from a lightweight frame. The tapered frame stiffens the racquet for tremendous strength.
Dunlop Aerogel 5HUNDRED TOUR. Slightly heavier and stiffer than the 5HUNDRED, this racquet hits a consumer segment that continues to grow in the United States.
The Dunlop Aerogel line of racquets is available in pro-shops and retail stores throughout the United States and Canada. For more information about the Aerogel racquets and other quality Dunlop products please call 800.768.4727.
