08/24/07 - Bordentown, NJ – With the US Open only a couple of days away, the world’s top touring pros are making last minute arrangements to get themselves organized for their trip to New York City. This includes everything from packing their suitcases and finalizing flight and hotel accommodations to applying fresh grip tape to their racquets and organizing their music playlists. Many tennis players, like other athletes, believe that having the right music can play a role in helping to get ready for a big match and is key to on-court performance.
While many players can be secretive about what they listen to, the world’s #1 doubles team, and music aficionados, Mike and Bob Bryan are giving fans a sneak peek at what is on their iPods by sharing their U.S Open songs as a celebrity playlist on the iTunes Store www.itunes.com beginning Tuesday, August 28 – timed with the start of the tournament.
Tennis fans and music lovers around the world will know exactly what songs two of the games greatest players are listening to, why they decided on the songs they did, and have the opportunity to download the playlist for themselves.
“Music is a huge part of our lives, both on and off the court,” said Mike Bryan. “Like many players, we are constantly downloading new songs and we create specific playlists for different tournaments and matches. The U.S. Open is no exception. Bob and I have put together a playlist of some of our favorite artists and songs we are listening to right now and we are psyched to have fans check it out on iTunes.”
In addition to capturing a career Grand Slam including the 2005 U.S Open title, off the court, Mike and Bob are serious musicians. Playing drums and keyboard respectively, the 29 year-old American twins grew up with every type of instrument in the home, and often play with their band at tour events and in front of large crowds.
“This is a perfect fit for us. When we are not playing tennis, you can usually find us jamming. We typically play cover songs, so we are constantly checking out new artists and playlists on iTunes for inspiration,” said Bob Bryan. “After my O3 Speedport Black racquets, good music is the second most important thing in my racquet bag.”
