07/13/07 - Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and passionate lifestyle of tennis, will air more than 100 hours of live and same-day match coverage during eight tournaments in this summer’s US Open Series. From July 20 through August 18, the network’s coverage includes seven prime-time Sunday double finals in addition to numerous singles semifinals, quarterfinals and early-round competition. With match repeats the network will devote more than 200 hours of airtime to US Open Series play.
“We are once again the place to turn for tennis fans who just can’t get enough tennis,” said Ken Solomon, president and CEO of Tennis Channel. “Since its inceptions in 2004, the US Open Series has helped build excitement and interest for the sport throughout the summer and leading up to the US Open. We are proud to once again bring the game to fans by carrying more hours than any other network.”
Tennis Channel will televise weekday and weekend singles and doubles matches at five ATP men’s tournaments: the Countrywide Classic (Los Angeles), Indianapolis Championships (Indianapolis), Legg Mason Tennis Classic (Washington, D.C.), Western & Southern Financial Group Masters (Cincinnati) and Rogers Cup (Montreal), as well as three women’s Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event’s: The Acura Classic (San Diego), East West Bank Classic (Carson, Calif.) and Rogers Cup (Toronto). The network has been a partner with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the governing body of the tournament series, since the US Open Series’ inception in 2004, along with fellow broadcasters ESPN, CBS Sports and NBC Sports. Combined, the four television networks will air more than 300 hours of live and same-day US Open Series coverage in 2007.
