03/05/07 - Hilton Head Island, S.C.--Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will host the 7th annual Special Olympics Tennis Championships, March 12-14, 2007, at PTR Headquarters in Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The event attracts Special Olympics athletes from nine states, including Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Three athletes, who will participate in the Hilton Head event, will also represent the USA in October at the Special Olympics World Games in Beijing, China. Both coaches for Team USA, Nancy Hoekstra and Anne Krupp, will also be on Hilton Head for the Championships.

Spectators are welcome free of charge to the Opening Ceremony with the lighting of the Olympic torch, Monday, March 12 at 6pm and Pro Exhibition match that immediately follows. The public is also welcome to watch the matches, which are scheduled for Tuesday from 9am to 3pm and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm. The medals presentations at the Closing Ceremony, will be Wednesday afternoon, and are also free to the public.

PTR is the Official Training Partner for Special Olympics Tennis. PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with approximately 13,000 members in 126 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
