05/14/07 - Bordentown, NJ – The top women’s doubles team in the world of Lisa Raymond (USA) and Samantha Stosur (AUS) won two matches Sunday to take home the 2007 Qatar Telecom German Open and their fourth doubles title of the year. Both Raymond and Stosur have taken advantage of Prince’s O3 technology to increase their lead atop the rankings and win four of the first five Tier I events of 2007. Playing the O3 Hybrid Tour and O3 White respectively, Raymond and Stosur defeated the team of Kveta Peschke and Rennae Stubbs 6-2, 6-2 before coming back out on the court later in the afternoon to defeat Tathiana Garbin and Roberta Vinci 6-3, 6-4 for the championship. The win marks the team’s 20th career doubles title.
Raymond, a member of Team Prince since she was a junior, picked up the O3 Hybrid Tour prior to the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells earlier this year and since the switch has won three Tier I titles including the Pacific Life Open – her first tournament with the new racquet. She was recently joined by American up-and-comer Sam Querrey who made the switch to the Hybrid Tour in time for this years Sony Ericsson Open.
“Playing two matches made for sort of long day, but it was well worth it. Hopefully we won’t have to do it too often!” said Raymond. “We feel great out there, extremely confident. The goal now is to stay healthy and continue to prepare the best we can for Roland Garros.”
Stosur, who is also ranked #29 in the world in singles, joins other tour players such as Maria Sharapova, and Daniela Hantuchova in choosing the O3 White as her racquet of choice. The O3 White was tennis’ #1 selling racquet for 2006 – a position it continues to hold heading into the second quarter of 2007.
“We are having a lot of fun out there together and playing some of our best tennis,” said Stosur. “I don’t know if it is because we both are playing O3 or not, but I am glad Lisa made the switch! Our record has been pretty good since she did. I could not ask for a better partner and am fortunate to be on the same side of the net with her.”
The win puts Raymond and Stosur 1118 points ahead of fellow Prince team member Liezel Huber (O3 Tour) who won the first Grand Slam title of the year and remains ranked #4 in the world in doubles.
“Congratulating Sam and Lisa on another tournament title has become a frequent event lately and we are so glad it has,” said Linda Glassel, VP Marketing and Communications for Prince. “They are the best in their sport and amazing to watch together on court. We are very excited to see what the rest of 2007 brings them and wish them continued success.”
Since its introduction, O3 racquets have helped players capture over 200 ATP and WTA tour events including seven Grand Slam titles. In only two short years, almost 100 touring pros have made the switch to the patented, revolutionary technology that transformed traditional pin sized string holes into giant O-ports.
