11/08/07 - Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, U.S.A. – DEUCE Magazine, the ATP’s Official Publication, today releases it second online issue in the lead-up to the prestigious Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, which begins Sunday.

The new issue profiles two Tennis Masters Cup combatants, former ATP World No. 1 Andy Roddick and World No. 6 Spaniard David Ferrer. The magazine also showcases the striking Terracotta Warrior campaign created for the 2007 circuit finale. French sculptor Laury Dizengreme has made life-size statues of all eight Shanghai qualifiers in the likeness of the Terracotta Warriors buried alongside the Qin Emperor in 210-209 B.C.

In profiling Roddick, leading American tennis writer Joel Drucker looks at the road ahead for the 2003 US Open champion, who remains entrenched at the top of the men’s game, but is chasing Roger Federer and young guns Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Sorting the positive from the negative will likely define the balance of Roddick's career, says Drucker, who is the author of Jimmy Connors Saved My Life.

Respected Spanish writer Pedro Hernandez profiles countryman and Masters Cup debutant Ferrer, who once described himself as “the worst Top 100 player in history.” As a 17 year old, Ferrer was locked in a “punishment room” when he wouldn’t train and briefly worked on a construction site for 30 Euro a week when he almost gave the game away.

On a lighter note, Tommy Haas tells of the most unusual item he has ever been asked to sign, recounts a recent horror hotel experience and explains why he had to pay 18 Euro to hire a tennis court in his homeland.

Fellow German Nicolas Kiefer is also the subject of a revealing profile. The former World No. 4 dropped off the South African Airways ATP Rankings completely midyear after more than 12 months on the sidelines due to injury. During his layoff he learned to bake a cake for his mother, endured minus 64 degree Celsius temperatures in an ice chamber, and upon his return broke back into the Top 50 after just 11 tournaments.
