06/10/08 - Santa Monica, Calif.--Dave Morgan, the newly appointed Chairman of The Tennis Company, announced today that he has hired sports and digital veteran Dominic Schmitt to be General Manager of TENNIS.com. The Tennis Company owns TENNIS.com, TENNIS and SMASH Magazines, and partners in the Pacific Life Open and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The Pacific Life Open is the world's fifth largest tennis tournament and the largest independent tournament in the world after the four Grand Slams.
Mr. Schmitt’s responsibilities include the operational management, content syndication, product development and growth of TENNIS.com, the official site of TENNIS Magazine and the number one tennis site in the world. The site provides users with breaking news, live scores, instruction resources, gear reviews, travel, and an interactive online community.
“When it comes to serving sports enthusiasts with web, online ad, and ecommerce services, no one in the world has more experience and is better at it than Dominic Schmitt,” says Mr. Morgan. Mr. Schmitt was Vice President of Client Services at TACODA. Before that, he was Vice President of Product Development at Barnes & Noble.com, overseeing ordering, customer service, and personalization. Previously, Mr. Schmitt served as the Director of eCommerce for the NBA and as principal architect of the network of racing sites for Churchill Downs, including Kentuckyderby.com. He spent more than five years with Times Mirror Magazines, where he helped launch eight national web sites including SportingNews.com, Golf Online and SkiNet.com. Prior to his online career, Mr. Schmitt produced documentary TV and multimedia programming for ABC News, ABC Sports, and the Discovery Channel.
Mr. Schmitt has a BA from St. Louis University and an MA in International Affairs with a specialization in International Media and Communications from Columbia University.
