09/01/08 - Newport, RI--Douglas A. Stark, a native of Holyoke, Massachusetts, has been named Museum Director at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum. In his role, Stark will oversee and manage the museum’s collection, permanent and traveling exhibitions, educational programming, and the activities of the Information Research Center.

Stark was formerly with the United States Golf Association Museum in Far Hills, N.J. (2002-2008), serving most recently as Curator of Education and Outreach. Stark worked with the staff in the development of the new USGA Museum and Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History that opened on June 3, 2008. His responsibilities included strategic planning, exhibit development, gift shop creation, and public relations and branding efforts.

Prior to the USGA Museum, Stark worked at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA (1998-2002), assisting with the development of 35,000-square-feet of exhibition space for the new museum that opened in October 2002. He also managed the library collection and assisted with educational programs.

Stark earned his MBA with a concentration in non-profit management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2001. In 1996, he received his Masters in American History and dual certification in Museum Studies, and Archival Management, Historical Society Administration and Historical Editing from New York University. He is also a 1994 graduate of Brandeis University (Waltham, MA).

His efforts have focused on making the history of sports more engaging, relevant, and accessible to a wider, more diverse audience. Stark is a member of several museum organizations and has written sports and museum articles.
