09/03/08 - New York, N.Y.—Top tennis writers were honored today at the U.S. Open as winners in the ninth annual U.S. Tennis Writers’ Association Writing Contest. First, second and third place winners in six categories were named from 64 entries by a panel of tennis-loving judges associated with Columbia University’s journalism school.
The contest, open to all writers for work published in 2007, was expanded from four six categories to accommodate the breadth of tennis writing that is published. The judges were Robin Blackburn, who is Director of the National Magazine awards, and John Martin, Sandy Padwe.
“The winning stories span from match coverage of the pro tours and recreational tennis to human interest features, industry news, and service-oriented pieces,” says USTWA President Liza Horan. “We're thrilled to present the winners with their prizes at the U.S. Open."
The 10th annual USTWA Writing Contest is open to all writers for work published in 2008. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 15, 2009. For entry forms and more information, visit www.USTWA.org.
