06/08/09 - St. Louis, Mo. — The St. Louis Aces and Rebounces.com will partner for a ‘Go Green’ event July 2, at the Dwight Davis Memorial Tennis Center in St. Louis’ Forest Park. The fun, music, tennis-filled event will kick off the 2009 World TeamTennis season.

“Aces tennis is not ordinary tennis,” said Dani Apted-Schlottman, St. Louis Aces owner. “We bring non-traditional and new elements to the sport such as playing music during the matches, encouraging active spectator participation and we providing ticket holders ages 16 and under with tennis racquets and instruction before every match. We are excited to partner with Rebounces and bring this ‘Go Green’ event to the tennis fans of St. Louis - one more way we can energize and grow the sport.”

During the event, Rebounces, the first company to launch a national tennis ball recycling campaign, will collect used tennis balls at the entrance of the Dwight Davis Tennis Memorial Tennis Center, from 5:30 to 9 pm. Tennis fans who bring 12 balls or more will receive a “Green Cup,” entitling them to discounted beverages at the July 2 event and all subsequent Aces home matches during the 2009 season.
“Each year, more than 300 million tennis balls are put into play in the US alone,” said Cannon Fletcher, local St. Louis resident and co-owner of Rebounces. “We applaud forward-thinking companies such as the Aces for doing their part to reduce tennis’ environmental impact. This partnership is yet another step towards Rebounces’ goal of greening tennis.”

Using Rebounces’ proprietary technology, all balls collected at the St Louis Aces Match in Forest Park event will be recharged for use back on the tennis court, or provided to schools or nursing homes to be placed on the bottom of chairs or walkers.

Since 2007, Rebounces’ goal has been to keep tennis balls in play and out of landfills, while growing the game by making affordable practice balls available to players. As part of its Replay, Reuse, Recycle initiative, Rebounces partners with organizations such as the St Louis Aces to collect tennis balls, re-pressurize them, and sell them in bulk as practice balls. Teaching pros and tennis facilities can also send lifeless practice balls to Rebounces to be re-pressurized at a fraction of the cost of new practice balls. Balls that aren’t suitable for further court use are made available to schools or healthcare facilities for a variety of uses. Rebounces continues to seek environmentally-friendly ways to recycle felt and rubber from severely damaged balls.

The St. Louis Aces are professional tennis players who are out on the pro tour making a living. The Aces have a history of drafting top-ranked players as well as “stars in the making.” The Aces are a member of the World TeamTennis League and compete against 10 other teams in their 21-day season each July.

The 2009 season will include visits from Anna Kournikova (July 11), Sam Querrey (July 15 & 17), and Kim Clijsters (July 21) playing for the Aces, as well as a visit from Bob & Mike Bryan of the Kansas City Explorers (July 19). The Aces team is comprised of Olga Govortsova (currently ranked #58 in singles in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and #75 in doubles), Liga Dekmeijere (currently ranked #85 in doubles), Tripp Phillips (a former UNC All-American and winner of an ATP Doubles Title at the 2008 Indianapolis Tennis Championships), and Mislav Hizak (a three time NAIA Men’s Singles Champion).
